How well is the Repeater Hearing your Signal?

Collin, K0NNK, is having some trouble with is antenna and a nearby repeater. He hit a 2 meter repeater full quieting but the repeater feedback was very fuzzy. His question is how big of an impact does receiving sensitivity have on receiving.
